Days of Astana in Moscow

Days of Astana in Moscow took place on September 19-20. The opening ceremony took place at VDNKh.

The akim of Astana Asset Issekeshev and Minister of the Moscow Government and head of the Department for External Economic Affairs and International Relations Sergey Cheremin opened “Ethnoaul,” an exhibition of ethnic Kazakh craftsmanship.

“These kinds of events allow people to learn more about each other,” the minister said, “The opening of the exhibition is a kind of rehearsal for the future opening of the Kazakhstan pavilion at VDNKh, which is currently being restored,” Sergey Cheremin said.

On September 19, Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin held a meeting with the akim of Astana (Kazakhstan) Asset Issekeshev. According to Mr. Sobyanin, Moscow and Astana already have an extensive history of cooperation and a corresponding agreement has been signed.

“We are ready to implement it and make corrections when they are needed. I hope that, now that you are in office, the dynamics of our cooperation will grow even stronger,” the Mayor of Moscow said.

He also thanked representatives of the Kazakh delegation for organizing Days of Astana in Moscow. Sergey Sobyanin pointed out that this event is a big deal for the Russian capital.

The Mayor of Moscow also congratulated Asset Issekeshev with his new appointment: “It’s a wonderful city that is developing rapidly and sets an example for other big cities. I wish you all the best on this challenging job.” In turn, Asset Issekeshev thanked the Moscow authorities for their hospitality and assistance with organizing the Days of Astana. “This is an important event for us,” he said, “and we hosted several performances, screenings, a gala concert and athletic events. We have an exhaustive program of meetings with Moscow businessmen.”

According to Minister of the Moscow Government and head of the Department for External Economic Affairs and International Relations Sergey Cheremin announced during the Moscow-Astana business cooperation forum that Moscow plans to take an active part in the Expo-2017 exhibition in Astana. The forum took place in the Moscow Chamber of Commerce as part of Days of Astana.

“Expo 2017 will be another excellent platform for cooperation and exchanging experience. The tagline for the upcoming exhibition will be ‘Energy of the Future,’ and I think it will become a unique opportunity for Moscow companies to present their achievements in the sphere of power generation and energy conservation,” the Minister said.

Mr. Cheremin pointed out that Moscow and Kazakhstan are actively developing economic cooperation. Kazakhstan is Moscow’s eight biggest economic partner. Astana is a rapidly developing metropolis that has demonstrated remarkable speed in terms of integrating investment and modern technology into the urban economy. In light of this, Mr. Cheremin said that he hopes the two cities will strengthen their cooperation in the future. “Astana and Moscow look toward the future with confidence, our countries moving forward,” the head of DVMS concluded.

Asset Issekeshev declared that there are currently a lot of projects that could be implemented jointly by the two capitals, which can exchange experience and technologies. “The key tasks we are focusing on are improvements in the quality of life for citizens, an increase in the efficiency of municipal services, the establishment of favorable conditions for business and the development of innovations. Moscow and Astana have very similar economic development models, which is why we would also like to establish active cooperation between our business communities. We are excited to host our Moscow colleagues at the upcoming Expo-2017,” Mr. Issekeshev said.

A memorandum of cooperation between the Astana Office for Investment and Development and the Moscow Department of National Policy, Interregional Relations and Tourism was signed during the business forum. The two sides agreed to expand international relations in the tourism sector, which will help establish favorable conditions for the development of tourism in both capitals.

The main focus of the Moscow-Astana business cooperation forum participants was the discussions about potential for cooperation of the two cities in the spheres of urban technologies, urban planning, logistics, healthcare and education.
