Moscow and Genoa sign Cooperation Agreement

The cooperation agreement between the Government of Moscow and the Municipality of Genoa for 2016-2018 was signed by Minister of the Moscow Government and head of the Department for External Economic Affairs and International Relations Sergey Cheremin and Mayor of Genoa Marco Doria.

The document entails the development of ties between the administrations of the two cities, promotion of dialogue, exchange of experience and implementation of joint projects, as well as maintaining friendship and mutual understanding based on the common values of democracy, equality and rule of law.

The two sides agreed to develop cooperation, including in the sphere of housing and utilities, the reconstruction of athletic and cultural facilities, holding exhibition, conferences and seminars that address issues of culture and the preservation of cultural heritage.

The document outlines plans to provide full support for the international violin competition “Premio Paganini,” develop ties between the cultural institutions of Genoa and the federal state budget cultural institution Scriabin Memorial Museum.

The agreement also outlines the exchange of ideas and information with respect to the development of entrepreneurship, including via participation in fairs and conferences, Journalist and tour operator exchanges are also planned in order to stimulate tourist volumes and participation in athletic events.

Special attention was paid to the Days of Moscow, which are to be held in Genoa in the fall of 2017. The even will also take place in Milan and Venice.

“We plan to hold Days of Moscow in northern Italy at the end of September – beginning of October 2017,” Segey Cheremin said while answering questions from journalists, “We successfully held Days of Moscow in three cities in France in June – Paris, Strasbourg and Nice. “We hope that everything will go just as well in Italy, and that will add this wonderful event to the piggy bank that contains the many years of friendly ties between our countries,” the Minister said.

“As an important European historical and cultural center, Genoa and the entire region of Liguria, as once of the most developed regions in Italy, are very attractive for Moscow in terms of cooperation. Moreover, hundreds of Italian companies that are implementing interesting projects are working in the capital right now,” Mr. Cheremin noted.

The head of DVMS also recalled that agreements of cooperation were confirmed and signed with the authorities of both Rome and Milan.

Representatives of the Moscow delegation in Genoa also held talks at the Chamber of Commerce and the Confederation of Italian Industrialists of Liguria.
