Mutual business interests stay strong

The Russian capital will strengthen ties with Bavaria

The Moscow government is hoping for closer economic cooperation with Bavaria, Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin said during a meeting with Horst Seehofer, Minister-President of Bavaria. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Moscow Mayor Natalya Sergunina, Minister of the Moscow Government and Head of the Department of Foreign Economic Activity and International Relations Sergey Cheremin, Head of the Moscow Department of Education Isaac Kalina, Chairman of the Moscow City Duma Alexei Shaposhnikov and other officials.

“It’s great that in a period of turbulence, we are maintaining ties between two actively developing regions in Europe at the regional level. Bavaria has always been one of the most important economic and cultural partners for us. 850 Bavarian entrepreneurs are working and developing their business in Moscow,” Sergey Sobyanin said.

According to him, interest in business cooperation has not waned, in spite of economic challenges. “We can be more proactive in terms of developing relations in the sphere of the economy, relations with business, to restore our former, stronger formats of this type of cooperation. We are ready to develop our relations,” the Mayor of Moscow noted.

Horst Seehofer thanked Mr. Sobyanin for inviting him to the Russian capital, proposed to continue meeting every year, and invited a Moscow delegation to visit Bavaria. He pointed out that relations between the two regions remain strong in spite of geopolitical tensions.

The Minister-President of Bavaria recalled his visit to Moscow last year: “Everything that you told us about your city and your city’s development was very valuable for us.” Horst Seehofer also added that he was very impressed by the healthcare sector. “You shared with us that, generally, you are aware of what person can or needs to make appointments with a certain doctor. This was very impressive,” he pointed out.

The Minister-President of Bavaria also noted that the ministers who were part of the delegation are ready to learn about Moscow’s experience and look into the possibility of applying technology used in the Russian capital back home.

Sergey Sobyanin also took part in the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Horst Seehofer, which took place at the Kremlin on March 16.

“I know that, like the last time, you came at the invitation of the Mayor of Moscow and have a lot to do: meetings with business representatives and our colleagues in the Government of the Russian Federation. Bavaria undoubtedly is first in terms of trade and economic ties with Russia among other Federal States of Germany,” the Russian president said.

Last year, exports from Bavarian enterprises to Russia increased by 4 percent, while exports from other parts of Germany fell by 4.8 percent overall. “This is thanks to your efforts, Mr. Minister-President ,” President Putin said, “I hope that this visit will also be helpful in terms of developing our relations.”

In turn, Horst Seehofer thanked Vladimir Putin for the opportunity to meet, hold talks and cooperate at the federal level. “And of course, we continue working with our partner city, the City of Moscow,” the Minister-President of Bavaria said. He added that Russia and Bavaria have a great opportunity to continue to expand on the established good relations. Horst Seehofer pointed out that Bavaria finds it very important to expand cooperation in the spheres of science, culture, the economy, and agriculture.
